We have been getting many questions concerning the Annual 5-10K Race sposored by the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial Society. I have contacted them to ask for information concerning this year's race and I received the following response.
Sadly the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial Society must cancel the Race this year. The City of Philadelphia wanted a huge amount in the way of fees and taxes. The size of the bill was way more than they could afford, so they were forced to shut it down. They appreciate your support and wish things were different.
The Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service & Education Center will be sponsoring three (3) local events to show their support and concern for Philadelphia’s homeless and less fortunate Veterans.
On Monday, November 10, in honor of the Marine Corps birthday and Veterans Day, a special luncheon will be served to The Center’s homeless, unemployed, and less fortunate Veterans. They will also be entertained by Jack Enea, who appeared at The Center’s 3rd Annual Doo Wop Festival. Jack is well known for his patriotic ballads and exciting country music sounds.
On Tuesday, November 25, The Center will provide a Thanksgiving dinner; and on Thursday, December 18, a Christmas luncheon will be served.
Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurants invite all active duty and veterans to one of 164 participating restaurants nationwide to pull up a chair for a delicious meal and heartfelt thanks this Veterans Day. With gratitude for their service and sacrifice, active duty and veterans will eat free at participating locations on Veterans Day (November 11, 2008) during regular business hours.
Veterans and active duty with proof of United States military service will be able to go to one of the participating Applebee's and select one complimentary entrée from a selection of delicious favorites: a savory House Sirloin, hearty Riblet Basket, zesty Fiesta Lime Chicken®, a juicy Quesadilla Burger or fresh Oriental Chicken Salad. All the traditional sides are included.

On the morning of Aug. 16 a restored U.S. Army UH-1 "Huey" helicopter will become a permanent fixture, greeting those driving into Mineral Wells, Texas, from the east.
That's when The National Vietnam War Museum will "Hoist the Huey" and celebrate this symbol of the Vietnam War with a program of activities culminating in lifting and mounting the helicopter by crane onto a support platform. The museum is located east of Mineral Wells on U.S. Highway 180, next to the Mineral Wells railway bridge.
Festivities will begin with the grand entrance of the Patriot Guard Riders, a group of motorcycle-riding veterans. The riders will assemble in the large parking area behind McDonalds' restaurant for their ride to the museum site at 10:15 a.m.
