Campbell, 19, left Overbrook High School after 11th grade and was a stock clerk for six months before entering the Army in January 1967. The private had a variety of duties in the Army, including working as a longshoreman, cargo handler and winch operator. He was assigned to the 561st Transportation Company of the 71st Transportation Battalion, 4th Transportation Command, in Vietnam. Camp-bell died in in the crash of a courier plane on April 25, 1968. His brother, Samuel, a Marine corporal, was wounded in Vietnam, while a sister, Shirley Buford, had been in the Army. Survivors include his parents, four other brothers and four other sisters.
