Gallagher graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1962, and worked as a line-man for Bell of Pennsylvania at 9th and Race streets for five years. He was drafted into the Army in April 1968. The 24-year-old specialist four, a cannoneer with C Battery of the 5th Battalion, 22nd Artillery, died in Vietnam on Feb. 17, 1969. He was survived by his mother, brother and sister.
