Gober graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in June 1968. He was a machinist apprentice for two months at the Jenkintown Steel Co. before enlisting in the Marine Corps in October 1969. The private first class, a rifleman, was sent to Vietnam in May 1970 and assigned to Company B of the 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, and 1st Marine Division. He died in Quang Nam Province on June 26, 1970, at the age of 20. Gober was survived by his parents, two brothers and seven sisters.
