Gough lived in Georgia before moving to Philadelphia, where he worked for L. Resnick & Sons, 31st and Oxford streets. He was drafted in August 1967 and later decided to make the Army a career. The 24-year-old corporal, a light weapons infantryman, was assigned to Company A of the 1st Battalion, 503rd infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade, in Vietnam. Gough died on May 25, 1968, two months after being sent to Vietnam, when the area he was patrolling came under mortar attack. Survivors included his mother, two sisters and a brother.
