Williams�s older brother, Kirk, an Army vet-eran. advised Duane to join up after the violent 32nd and Norris streets gang bad up-proached him. Duane took the advice, leaving Th~m9~ 1~dison High School in June 1%Q luc months before graduation. He enlisted in the Army in January 1969 and was sent to Vietnarn, where the rifleman was assigned to Company A of the 1st Battalion. 505th Infantry, 196th light infantry Brigade, Williams died on New Year�s Day 1970, 13 days before his 19th birthday. The private was survived by his wife, mother. three brothers and two sisters
