Griffin, who enlisted in the Army in September 1964, confided in his last letter home train Vietnam that �I�m trying very hard to stay alive and get back home,� The private first class, a rifleman assigned to Company C of the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry, and 173rd Airborne Brigade, died one week before Christmas Day 1965. He was 18 years old. Survivors included his father, two brothers and two sisters.
