The 22-year-old Cardinal Dougherty High School graduate worked with computers for the UNIVAC division of Sperry Rand Corp. when be was drafted into the Marine Corps in May 1968. The oldest of five children, he was good with electronics and machinery, and built an amplifier for a younger brother�s guitar. Mangold was a rifleman assigned to Company C of the 1st Battalion, 4th Marinas, 3rd Marine Division. In Vietnam. He died in Quang Tiren Province on March 3, 1969, the day he had returned to duty from a previous wound. Survivors included his parents, two brothers and twin sisters.
