The 33-year-old career Army veteran had served in Korea, Germany and Japan before being assigned to Vietnam, where he was a platoon sergeant and team leader in Company C of the 1st Battalion, 16th In-fantry, 1st Infantry Division. Soils died on Dec. 11, 1966, leading an as-sault against an enemy position. Survivors included his wife and two Sons.
