Weber enlisted in the Marine Corps in April 1967 the day after his 17th birthday and left Thomas Edison High School to fulfill a long time dream of joining what he considered to be the best branch in the military. The 18 year old private first class, a rifleman, was assigned to Company B of the 1st Battalion 4th Marines 3rd Marine Division in Vietnam "He wanted to stay {in Vietnam} a little longer to keep some other poor guy from coming over" his mother recalled. Weber died on Feb. 24, 1969, when a grenade accidentally exploded near his tent. He was survived by his mother and a sister
