Honoring…Still initiative
The Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial is welcoming all to take part in a new, meaningful tradition at Front & Spruce Streets. Each month, a different Veteran’s flag will be raised above the main American flag pole. Any person who would like to ‘continue to honor their deceased military hero from any time period, by flying his/her flag above the Memorial, may do so by contacting Veapdd214@gmail.com.The family may request the flag to be returned; or to have it ‘honorably retired’ at a ceremony held at the American Legion Fishtown Elm Tree Post #88. (A funeral/coffin flag is made of cotton, and the weather may damage the flag.) Although a brief ceremony, family and friends are invited to have the honor of ‘raising and/or lowering the flag’.
A brief bio of the Veteran supplied by the family will be posted on the PVVM Facebook page; and the www.pvvm.org website.
Former Honorees: John Modell, Robert Naimoli, Frank Liney, Thomas Finnerty, Al Maberry, Anthony (Sonny) Kwasiborski, George Harry Townsend
