POW/MIA Day observance Friday. Sept. 17, 2021
The Philadelphia Veterans Parade and the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial will host a ceremony in observance of POW/MIA Day on Friday, September 17 2020 at 12 PM at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Columbus Blvd. and Spruce Street at Penn’s Landing. The two veteran organizations, joined by representatives of the Cpl. Michael J. Cresenz VA Medical Center, will honor service men and women from all previous wars and conflicts, and those who are still listed as missing or were imprisoned while serving their country.
The somber observance will honor the six known POWs from the Philadelphia area, some of whom will be in attendance. The ceremony will also recognize the 10 Philadelphia area men, who still remain missing. Major Ashlock, the nephew of Carlos Ashlock, one of the 10 still missing\, plans to attend.
Anthony Murphy, president of Philadelphia Veterans Parade, will deliver remarks, along with Pat Mitchell, the chair of the Memorial’s POW/MIA Committee. . This will be the first live ceremony in two years as Covid restrictions required the ceremony to be held virtually in 2020.
