Alexander Cooper

Cooper, 37, joined the Army in 1952 and fought in the infamous battle for Pork Chop Hill in Korea. He worked as a carpet weaver, a trade he learned at Jules E. Mastbaurn Technical High School after returning from Korea. Cooper re-enlisted in 1962, serving in Germany before going to Vietnam in January 1967 as an armor intelligence specialist with B-Troop, 5th Armored Cavalry. 9th Infantry Division. The staff sergeant wrote home that he had adopted "Charley," a pet monkey, but had been unable to train the animal to drink beer with him. Cooper died near Xorn Xa Narn on Nov. 4, 1967. He was survived by his wife, three daughters, two brothers, and two sisters.
